May 4-8  Activities

Grades 3-5

The activities that I post are meant to be used many times. If you are able and want to record an audio or video of yourself doing them, I would love it if you emailed them to me. An audio version can be recorded using the "Voice Memo" app, and a video version can be made using the Camera on an iPhone. (I don't know what to use on an Android).

This week let’s try something new and see what other music teachers can do! I have made some lessons for you with some really great videos, activities and percussion.

All Grades

Let’s do “Kye Kye Kule” (“Che Che Koolay”), this time using instruments. By Visual Musical Minds

Grade 3

Here is a link to a Lesson on my Grade Primary - 2 page that is great for GRADE 3, "Rocky Mt. His" & "Miss Mary Mack"

Grades 3-5

We’ve done this song, “Great Big House in New Orleans”, but this is a different, and very cool, version. The words are a little different, and he has some great percussion parts. You can use three different percussion instruments; sticks, a drum, and a tambourine. If you don’t have those you can use what you have just fine. In the middle of the video he shows how the percussion parts rhythms and how they are written. Try it and please let me know how you like it!

“Alpha Four” by Visual Musical Minds

This is a Body Percussion piece, and it will challenge you! Try it at the speed shown and then do it faster...if you can!

String Family

Let's get back to exploring the different families of instruments in the orchestra, like we were doing in school before we left. I am attaching links to a "Inner Space Concert". These are local musicians who are recording together visually during this break. You can listen for free or offer a donation.

Look at this song you all know. Which instrument families do you see? Three of the four families are represented here. What instruments are they using? I can see twelve different instruments (some have more than one).

This next video is a concert that will be happening Sun. May 10, 2020 (3:00pm ADT) called "Mothers for Mothers" Let's tune in together and see what THAT'S all about!
