Click on the picture to the left.  "Binibeats" introduces us to making three sounds with the mouth: BASS  HI HAT SNARE.

(Heads up - she teachers in English and Filipino.)

She teaches two different patterns using these three sounds but uses the letters B (for the bass) T (for the hi hat) and K (for snare) to write out the pattern

That's because those letters best represent the sound you make.

The second pattern is a challenge for sure!!  But just practice making the sounds and then put on your favorite music and try to beat box along with it.   Its always about practice. Remember: Musicians are athletes of the small muscles!!

I CAN: Play a three-part rhythm.

The next activity is also a percussion task. Click the picture and go to a video of Sting and Stevie Wonder playing Sting's song "Fragile".

Your task is to play along with Sting!  Now he is playing a shaker, which is not that easy to play in time.  I suggest you either tap your fingers on the table or get two new pencils and play them.

Sting plays eight notes through the whole song.  Seems easy, right?

Just playing "ti ti ti ti" for three minutes!  Left Right Left Right etc

BUT . . .  Stevie Wonder is a master musician, and both his singing and his harmonica playing is phrased with lots of off beats. AS well he often plays "behind the beat"! But Sting plays ON the beat.  Try it.
